The Area - Things To Do and See
When staying at Duke Hostel there are many things to do and sights to see so we recommend to book for at least 2-3 nights.
Greymouth is surrounded by the Tasman Sea, The Grey River and the mountains of the Southern Alps so you can go cycling (on our free bikes), tracking from 1 hour to 2-3 days, rafting, kayaking or just driving and sight seeing.

Point Elizabeth Walk
A famous walk overlooking the Tasman Sea.Between 1 to 3 hours return. In the sumemer you can watch seals and dolphins from the walk.
Only 5 min drive from Duke Hostel.
Hokitika Gorge
An amazing wide and deep gorge, only 10-15 min walk.Only less than 1 hour from Duke Hostel
Greymouth Beach
Great for walks along the beach, swimming in the summer and camp fire (lots of driftwood)Grey River

Arthur's Pass National Park
A beautiful drive from Greymouth up to Arthur's Pass N.P. and the the Southern Alps.1 hour drive from Duke Hostel.
Punakaiki
The world famous Pancake Rocks.A very easy 20-30 min walk around the special rocks and blow-holes.

Greymouth Cycle Track
A beautiful cycle way along the coast.Starts from Greymouth, 5 min from Duke Hostel and goes for 65 km.
Coal Creek Falls
A beautiful short walk, less than 1 hour return.6 km from Duke Hostel, 5 min drive or less than 1/2 hour by bicycle.
Castle Hill (Arthur's Pass N.P.)
Rocky hill in Arthur's Pass N.P., excellent for walks and rock climbing.Only 1 1/2 hour from Duke Hostel
